WINNER!: Virtual Vanguard Award - Best Disaster Recovery Solution 2007

This evening I was awarded the 2007 VMware Virtual Vanguard Award for Best Disaster Recovery Solution. The solution I designed used a consecutive scripting engine (DSH) for the Linux environment as the base work for my solution. Once this environment was configured, I put a pool of scripts together to recover from server failure, storage array failure and site failure.
The scripts worked wonderfully but alas, scripts are run at an intimidating command line interface. I took the solution to the next level by building a Virtual Appliance running Ubuntu Desktop and then built a GUI application in Glade/GTK and C#. The solution was then able to be run by anyone and the recovery process essentially involved: click – click – recover. Viola!
I am extremely delighted to have won the award this year and would like to thank all of the wonderful people at VMware whom I’ve worked with over the last several years and the many new friends I’ve made at VMWorld 2007.
Time to start working on a solution for 2008.
