V-Moses Released!

V-Moses, a .Net app for ESX 2.x/VI3 has been released!

What does it do?

It will V-Motion an entire farm or datacenter to a failover site or the second node of a split-side configuration.

How does this relate to Virtual Center’s “Maintenance Mode?”

Maintenance mode will only failover one server at a time. For large environments this means a manual and tedious process. V-Moses will evacuate all of Site 1, or only Farm 1 in Site 1 over to Site 2 via a mass V-Motion process called Mass Exodus™.

V-Moses will then Normalize the environment by sending back virtual machines to their original location. Admins no longer need to perform a multitude of maintenance mode actions, now the capabilities can be performed en masse.

How long does it take?

V-Moses has been tested in an environment of 80 ESX servers with ~500 Virtual Machines. It takes approximately 5 minutes to run through the entire environment and initialize the required VMotion tasks.
