VMWorld 2008 - 2 Months to go
With about two months to go until VMWorld 2008 officially begins, I wanted to remind everyone that I will once again be LiveBlogging from the event.
I did some LiveBlogging from VMWorld 2007 where I was ecstatic to have won the Vanguard Award for Best DR Solution.
This evening I was awarded the 2007 VMWare Virtual Vanguard Award for Best Disaster Recovery Solution. The solution I designed used a consecutive scripting engine (DSH) for the Linux environment as the base work for my solution. Once this environment was configured, I put a pool of scripts together to recover from server failure, storage array failure and site failure.
The scripts worked wonderfully but alas, scripts are run at an intimidating command line interface. I took the solution to the next level by building a Virtual Appliance running Ubuntu Desktop and then built a GUI application in Glade/GTK and C#. The solution was then able to be run by anyone and the recovery process essentially involved: click – click – recover. Viola!
Stay tuned as I’ll post my recommended sessions and perhaps some other exciting news still in the works!
